Cycle July Recap and August Preview

July has been an exciting month for us here at Cycle! We've had our heads down, and have made significant advancements and launched a number of new features aimed at enhancing the overall experience for our users. As we transition into August, we're thrilled to share what we've accomplished during the month of July, and what lies ahead for the platform.

July Highlights:

Launch of the Cycle Community

We're excited to announce the launch of Cycle's new Community forum, a dedicated space designed for collaboration, education, and deeper technical understanding. This forum allows our users to:

  • Ask Questions: Seek advice and get answers from the Cycle team and fellow users.
  • Share Knowledge: Post insights and projects to inspire others.
  • Stay Updated: Keep up with the latest platform changes directly from the Cycle changelog.
  • Engage in Discussions: Join conversations about best practices, emerging trends, and industry news.

With features like code highlighting, image support, and a robust search functionality, the Cycle Community aims to bridge the gap between documentation and our Slack community, providing a wealth of knowledge to be shared back to our users.

Initial Release of Monitoring Tools

We are thrilled to introduce the first phase of Cycle's native monitoring platform, a feature highly anticipated by many of our users. This initial release lays a strong foundation for comprehensive metrics, events, logging, and alerting. Users will now notice initial visual enhancements that provide deeper insights into their infrastructure's performance. This is just the beginning—future releases will include a full monitoring dashboard, making it easier than ever to monitor, analyze, and optimize your operations in real-time.

Continued Improvements to Pipelines

Our team has been hard at work improving pipeline parallelism. We rebuilt the locking and exclusion mechanisms to better determine which resources needed read locks versus write locks. This enhancement results in better data integrity while enabling better performance for concurrent pipelines.

Enhancements to Load Balancer

We released the alpha version of our Web Application Firewall (WAF), which includes the ability to block or allow traffic based on IP at the load balancer. We've also introduced URL rewriting capabilities, allowing users to use regex with groups for path matches and insert corresponding group matches. These improvements make our load balancer more flexible and secure.

Bug Fixes and Other Improvements

We've addressed several issues, including fixing instance console crashes caused by non-UTF8 characters, resolving GCP server tagging problems, and eliminating a race condition with wildcard domains. Additionally, we've enhanced features like custom SHM size, improved the auto-scaler, and added YAML support for stacks.

August Preview:

Expanding Monitoring and Metrics

Building on the foundation laid in July, we will be adding more graphs and data throughout the portal. Our goal is to provide users with comprehensive visibility into their infrastructure's performance.

Logging and Alerting

We're working on capturing container logs and making them accessible within the platform. Additionally, we will introduce the ability to create custom alerts based on logs or events, giving users critical insights and notifications about their infrastructure's health and performance.

We are excited about these upcoming enhancements and look forward to delivering more value to our users. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to innovate and improve the Cycle platform.
